Aircraft maintenance demands precision, efficiency, and strict attention to safety. At Dover Air Force Base, drill bits are essential tools for day-to-day operations, but without proper organization they can easily become misplaced, slowing down maintenance tasks and increasing the risk of FOD (Foreign Object Damage) on the flight line.

To address this, we designed and 3D-printed a custom drill bit holder tailored specifically for the needs of the maintenance crew. Each slot securely houses an individual bit, ensuring quick access to the correct size while keeping tools from rolling loose or being left behind. The durable, lightweight holder can be produced rapidly and modified as needed, making it an adaptable solution for evolving maintenance requirements.

This project highlights how additive manufacturing can provide simple, cost-effective tools that improve efficiency, reduce FOD risks, and directly support mission readiness for the Air Force’s aircraft maintenance teams.
